Blame it on the weather

This is Libba’s husband, commandeering her LJ to post some unfortunate news. Alas, due to Hurricane Rita’s untimely arrival in Florida, she won’t be making it to Miami tomorrow for her school visit or book signing. She’s terribly bummed about it, though glad she doesn’t have to fly into a storm, given that she’s not big on flying to begin with. She will be back in Miami in January, though, when she will hopefully do makeup dates for all the scheduled events.

Stay safe down there!

  1. I think people who were planning on going to see her there will understand. I think a person’s safety is much more important than some book signing besides she’ll be back.

I hope people are allright over there in Florida.

  2. I started to read this and I got all worried!!

It’s good to know something’s not wrong and that’s she’s staying out of harms way. :]

I feel sorry for the people in Southern Florida, but I’ll stay hopeful for a visit from her here in Northwest Florida!

  3. stay safe

ya, i don’t live there but i’d like her to stay alive so that one day she can come and visit my town on long island (just keep your distance from the locals!!!!!) anywho….. i don’t like flying eaither!!! but i survived the 5 houre trip to ireland, so she can defintly make it to florida!!! safe safe and be strong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😉

  4. This is for all the people in Texas

    Dear Libba Bray,
I want to thank you for your books. I havent gotten to read the secend one yet but I know i will love it. The first one has helped though tough times, and its safe to say that your my favorite writer. It is because of you that I am inspired to work harder in school, and maybe live in a place like NYC. Thanks again, and good luck on your 3rd book.

    Lots of love
Molly TX ps Thanks for your concern about the hurricane.

  6. Bummer. I would much rather have her safe than get a book signed. We were leaving to visit my brother who is near Miami but instead stayed here to keep out of harm’s way. I hope to see her around again after this passses!!!

    Hi Libba’s husband…lol.

  7. *waves to Mrs.Bray’s husband*

Yes I can understand why she did not come here to Miami. But now we’re praying for Texas over here as the hurricane might hit them as a category four. Anyways, of course we all understand and hope to see her in January!

  8. I guess it’s safe to say Ms. Bray won’t come to Houston, either? Well, maybe I should be a little more concerned that a huge storm is coming our way this week…but I really really want to go to a book signing somehow! Mr Libba Bray please tell your wife to come back to Texas when possible!!

  9. Upset and Content

Wow, I just finished “Rebel Angels”. I must say, and I fear it will not at all be “Lady Like”…….I LOVE YOUR WORK!!!!! OK, now that that is out. I really do love your work. I remember reading “A Great and Terrible Beauty” and when I finished it, got this feeling of “Yeah, that was a great book” and “Oh no, I don’t it to be over”. So I went to the net, and started looking things up. That is when I found out that there would a be a second book. I was ecstatic. And then, after a wait that felt like forever, I saw it on the book shelf at the store. My mom got upset beacuse I was rather loud in my excitement. I think the people in the store thought I was crazy. But I told my mother that I had to get this book. It was of great importance. I made sure to read more slowly this time, so the book would last longer. That didn’t work so well. I finished it in two days. Which is longer than last time. But once again I was filled with that feeling of “Yay’ and “On no”. LOL, that affect of beautiful writing.

    Thanks so much,
    Menely

  10. You stepped up!

I had a similar experience to the previous commenter, I read “A Great and Terrible Beauty” over a year ago during Spring break and absolutely loved it, and was always sub-conciously waiting for a sequel. When I saw “Rebel Angels” on the shelf, I knew what it was immediately, thanks to the dramatic and familiar cover. I just had to buy it, as well as the original, since I’d already forgotten so much.
Considering what little time I have to read for pleasure as a college student, I’m surprised at how quickly I finished both. The second one took me longer, naturally, as it’s longer, but I enjoyed it even more than the first! The romance and especially the mystery just had me hooked. When I learned the major truth (don’t worry, I won’t give it away), I actually cried “Oh my gosh!” out loud to no one in particular. That NEVER happens when I read.
Thank you for giving me a fun way to spend my free time, I so enjoy these books and am already impatient for the last one to come along.

  11. Major icon love

And yes, do come back to Texas! She knows she wants the Tex-Mex!

I’ll take her to Karams in San Antonio and fill her up with fajitas and tortilla chips and quesadillas and carne guisada and TAMALES made by real Mexican grammas!!

  12. I just finish reading Rebel Angels!!!

i came upon your first book by chance in the store and i thought it was amazing, i was again wondering the book store yesterday when i saw your second book! i didn’t think it was coming out for a few weeks!
ps: it was amazing, are you going to go any further with this story???

you are a fabulous writer! -SD

  13. a third book?

i was just wondering if u are going to write a third novel as a continuation of the first two, because i think gemma is a great character and you should continue her adventures

  14. Hi i would just like to say that i love the first two great and terrible beauty books….i just finished Rebel Angels and i basically didn’t do homework for two days finishing it. Looking forward to a third!! These are the best books i have read in a long time

  15. Rebel Angels

Hi i would just like to say that I love the new book rebel angels. I have not finished it yet but I am turning the pages fast.

  17. Hello there 🙂

Hi Libba…I LOVE your books and your lj makes me giggle endlessly, and for lack of a better place to contact you I suppose I’d better post here. I’m taking a career discovery course and part of the curriculum entails me interviewing a professional in the caeer I’d like to pursure, incedentally I’d reallllly love to be a writer and so I was wondering if maybe I could set up an interview with you? I understand if your too busy, but if your interested email me at foggyboggart@yahoo.com thank you!

  18. I finished the book

I wanted to let you know, Ms. Bray, that I finished your book today and was absolutely enthralled the entire time. I eagerly awaited the publication of this book and was the first to check it out from our library co-op. In fact, I ordered it before its publication to ensure that I would get it promptly. While I may be an older reader of you books then some, I want to say that they are thrilling, entertaining and thoughtful. I attended my partner’s swearing-in ceremony this afternoon and shunned conversation with my in-laws so that I may finish the last few chapters. I loved it and I want to know what will come of all characters. For what it is worth (which is little), I was not excited about the title when I first heard it because of the connotation that it had for me. But upon learning the relationship to the book, I began to appreciate it. Thank you so much for encouraging young women and girls to read (an older ones for that matter!) Thank you for creating strong, realistic, beautiful and memorable characters. I love to see women in lead rolls that portray the complexities of feminine standards and roles while juxtaposing them to wants and desires. Fabulous!

  19. Hey Libba, you rock star — it’s M from the Park Slope shop. I have been running so far behind schedule, what with The New Yorker fest this weekend, and my work computer committing harakiri (note to suits: parceling out Wi-Fi upgrades to computers running Windows 98 is akin to serving fugu to a vegan — an indigestible gut-bomb). Haven’t gotten the chance to thank you for stopping by. This is the card I was remiss in not mailing out. I may trouble you for stock come the holidays, but ’til then, enjoy the tour!

  20. Re: Hello there 🙂

Nevermind Libba, I asked Cassie Claire as well because I have to know by thursday and I didnt know how long it would take for either of you to respond, and she’s already said yes. So you thank you for bothering to read this when you get the chance anyway! 😀

  21. just wanted to letcha kno that i just spent the entire morning reading rebel angel. i’m so enthralled by it. i’m about halfway done but i don’t ever want it to be over. i’ll be going through withdrawl til the next one!

  22. Oh my …

Libba, I have never read such amazing books before!! I stayed up till after 3 AM reading Rebel Angels (although I didn’t finish it)!! I did finish it today and LOVED it!!! I was a bit upset that Kartik and Gemma did not finally end up together … but then again there WILL be more books. And the fact that he didn’t go through with the whole killing thing was promising for their future! 😉 I don’t know that I can even put into words how wonderful this book was and A Great and Terrible Beauty!!! You are a gifted writer!! Could you give us all at least one small hint about book #3 … the name? 🙂 I just looked on your schedule and realized you were in Dallas yesterday … the horror. I had no idea. I missed it. But, I will hopefully meet you on another tour!! One last note … please keep Gemma away from Simon … looks can be deceiving (besides, she needs to be with Kartik!)!!! ~Krystal Burleson (another copper-headed girl)~

  23. I’m so sorry I didn’t post about the Dallas schedule changes. Everything was so up in the air until the very last minute, and even I wasn’t entirely sure where Libba would be when.

Don’t worry, though, Libba’s in Texas at least twice in the next six months, so there will be a chance to see her!

  24. book signings

I was GOING to go to the Great Read in NYC this weekend as I live about half an hour away, but my parents decided that the four day weekend would be great for a trip to Florida. Which is wonderful and all, but I’m missing a chance to meet you! I finished Rebel Angels earlier today after having bought it 2 nights ago. And I loved it (same with AGATB). So I was wondering, are you going to do anymore signings in the NYC/northern NJ/Bergen County, NJ area?

  25. I love your books! ^__^

Hello! My name’s Leilani, and i just finised reading Rebel Angels, and i can honestly say that your books are most definatly some of my favorite books. You should have seen me in the book store the day that i found Rebel Angels. My mother thought i had seen Johnny Depp or something, because i was so excited i couldn’t talk. hehehe^__^ Just thought i would let you know that i love your writing.
    Waiting for the next book,
    Leilani Lott

  26. i know this is off the topic but…

i know this is off the topic but is there going to be another book after Rebel Angels? thanks a bunch!!!!!!!

  27. Re: I love your books! ^__^

lol i kinda had the same experience i had a gift card cause it was my birthday and i desperately wanted to read SOMETHING about the victorian age (libba got me hooked on it) and i said i really liked AGATB to the store clerk and she said lets go look around where that book is. and i find Rebel Angels. i freaked out lol. i love your books libba thanks for writing them. off the topic lol sorry
    -Billy

  28. How do I ask you a question?

My name is Ashley and it only took me a day and a half to read each of Libba Bray’s books. They were the most fantastic works of fiction I have ever read in my life. I was just wondering how I would be able to get an autographed book and possibly meet Mrs Bray. I would love to get a response. Thanks so much!

  29. Are you ever going to be anywhere near Topeka, KS or anywhere in Kansas for that matter? That would be so cool cause you are my new favorite author and I would love to meet you!!!!!!

  30. Bummer Indeed!

Yeah, i know New Orleans is practically an earthen hell right now, but do you think it is at all possible to scheduele a signing there or around New Orleans on your next tour. I’m sure by the time the third book’s out the water will only be up to your ankles, and the muck on the buildings will most likely be dried. A great and terrible beauty and Rebels angels were the only form of entertainment on a 12 hour journey to houston for evacuation. Oh and one more question,…You didn’t happen to mold Circe/Ms Moore/sarah/Ms.Mccleethy/betrayer of the order off of John William Waterhouse’s paintings did you?

  31. Barnes and Noble at the Grove

I don’t know if you’ll actually read this, but I couldn’t find a link to email you. I was one of the nerds last night, 9/27, that asked you to sign my books and talked your ear off. You made my and Samantha’s night. Thank you so much. I hope the rest of the tour is fun, but you can get some rest. I love your list of movies and songs. Singing in the Rain is one of my all-time favorites too. Again, it was such a pleasure and honor to meet and speak with you. God Bless!

  33. AGATB, RA, and Halloween

Just wanted to let you know that I love your books so much that I’m being an English school girl from 1895 ::cough:: PIPPA ::cough:: for my favorite holiday, Halloween! I’ve already got the skirt, cape, and shoes. Now all I need is the shirt and my corset! Going all out this year, accent, corset, acting, and staying in character throughout the day! Just a question, would I need gloves, do you think Mrs. (or Mr.!) Bray? Thanks so much! PLEASE write a third book!

  34. Re: Bummer Indeed!

If it makes you feel any better, I’m trying to organize a dance-a-thon and bake sale at m school for New Orleans relief and rebuilding! I really, really, really hope that everything turns out alright.

  35. Re: Barnes and Noble at the Grove

And this is Samantha, echoing Eden’s sentiments. It was awesome meeting and hanging out with you! Thanks for taking the time out to visit us. 🙂

    Samantha

  36. to libba bray

    Hey Mrs. Bray!
I find your books so awesome! I know you probably get tired of hearing that but they really are. They are just as good as Harry Potter. lol, that says alot. I really want you to write a 3rd one. I am 13 and I live in Florida. I love you books. I just got done reading the 2nd one. You have such an amazing talent. Dont ever stop using it!
    🙂

  37. Just Finished Rebel Angels!

It took a while but I just finished the brilliantly written Rebel Angels! Absolutely incredible, I couldn’t put it down. And what better time to finish a book than the weekend? Mrs Bray, I’ve got to tell you that ever since A Great And Terrible Beauty, I’ve been swept into 1895 London, England and probably may never come back. Ok, ok, I may periodically (I do love my cell phone and computer and tv…if London had that I’d never leave and be sent to a insane place cause I’ve been “acting peculiarly”) due to certain obligations…yeah…anyway, I just love your books and Gemma, Felicity, Ann, and Pippa (ALL OF THEM – especially Felicity)…I’m not easily drawn to books, especially series. In fact, if you were to ask me the best book (single or series) I’ve ever read (and I’ve read tons and tons of books), I’d name about four. Harry Potter, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Series of Unfortunate Events, and, of course, A Great and Terrible Beauty and Rebel Angels. I’ve heard there’s going to be a third book. Please, please, PLEASE write one! You’ve got the talent. That rare writer ability to write so that readers are drawn to the characters, the setting, the time, like gravity. I may be fourteen but I do know a good book. Trust me, I’ve read a LOT of books. In my honest opinion, you could write as long as you like and no one would care. Hell, you could make 20 books and we fans would read them all.

But, of course, do what you want. You wrote the books, you decide what’s what. There’s no ‘obvious’ or ‘clear’ indication of that right. Its just there. Wow, this is so weird…anyway, I’ll leave before I babble on for pages and pages and pages…I can do that, trust me.

    Sincerely,
    ~fieryteenqueen (yet another adoring fan)

  38. Hi again!

Oh, by the way, YOU ROCK! I will peobably be done with Rebel Angels in less than a week! The book is SOOOOOOOOOOOO(infinity Os) GOOD! Once again, you rock!
